What’s New Since 3.0
- 3.2 — Crop clips: reframe ordinary and spatial videos in the Clip Editor with freeform bounds or preset aspect ratios.
- 3.1 — Rotation and transitions: rotate clips in quarter turns and use more transition styles with adjustable timing and direction.
- Conversion fixes: updates after 3.1 address black conversion output and crashes, with another conversion crash fix in 3.2.
CosmiCut is free to try. A subscription or one-time CosmiCut Unlock purchase unlocks watermark-free exports and premium tools, including cropping, rotation, additional transitions, and batch spatial conversion.
See the App Store version history for release details.
Quick Start
- Create a project from the Projects screen.
- Tap Add your first clip (or Add Clip or Photo) to import media. CosmiCut can detect common packed 3D formats, like side-by-side and top/bottom, and convert them to spatial video during import.
- Use the timeline to trim, reorder, and split clips.
- Open a clip to crop or rotate it, fine-tune effects, or convert it to spatial video.
- Use Effects and Filters for project-wide grading.
- Add music from the music menu.
- Tap Export, configure destination, conversion, and output format, then tap Begin Render and Export.
Projects
- Create: Create from the project sheet.
- Copy: duplicate an existing project from the project list.
- Delete: remove with swipe/context controls.
- Rename: edit the project title in the navigation title field.
Timeline
Core Actions
- Add media: use Add buttons in the timeline.
- Reorder clips: drag clips to new positions.
- Split clip: use the scissors button at the playhead.
- Transitions: use the + button between clips to add or remove a transition. See Transitions for styles and settings.
- Zoom: adjust timeline zoom with the magnification slider.
Import Sources
- Photos picker (videos and images).
- Files picker (movies and images).
- Photos become clips with automatic Ken Burns-style motion. They are not automatically made spatial; use spatial conversion if needed.
- Packed 3D videos, including side-by-side and top/bottom layouts, are detected and converted to spatial video when possible.
Transitions
Use the + button between clips to add a transition, or remove an existing transition from the same controls.
- Cross Dissolve: blend between clips.
- Dip to Black: fade through black.
- Wipe: reveal the next clip across the frame.
- Push: move one clip out as the next moves in.
Adjust transition timing to suit the edit. Wipe and Push also offer a direction choice. Play across the transition to review the result.
Clip Editor
Open a clip from the timeline to edit clip-level settings.
Trim
- Drag Trim Start and Trim End handles in the clip timeline.
- Minimum trim length is enforced to keep clips usable.
Crop (Premium)
- Open the crop tool in the Clip Editor.
- Set freeform crop bounds or choose a built-in aspect ratio.
- Scrub through the clip to check the framing as the subject moves.
- Apply the crop when the framing is ready.
Cropping supports both ordinary and spatial video.
Rotate (Premium)
Use the Clip Editor’s rotation controls to turn a clip left or right in 90-degree increments. Repeat as needed and preview the orientation.
Edits are non-destructive: your original clips are preserved.

Troubleshooting
Export won’t save to Photos
- Grant Photos permission in system settings.
- Retry export after permission is accepted.
Converted video is black or conversion crashes
Update to the latest CosmiCut release before retrying. Releases after 3.1 fixed black conversion output and crashes, and 3.2 includes another conversion crash fix.
Spatial conversion is slow
- Try the faster depth model option.
- Use shorter trims before conversion.
- Batch conversion and export-time conversion can take a while on longer projects.
Packed 3D import was not detected
- Use common filenames or formats such as side-by-side, top/bottom, SBS, TB, or OU when possible.
- Check that the source uses a supported packed 3D layout. If it still imports incorrectly, contact support with the format details; 2D-to-spatial conversion is intended for ordinary 2D footage.
3D export formats are unavailable
- Convert all clips to spatial first, or enable Convert clips to spatial before export in the export sheet.
Audio import failed
- Try re-importing from Files app.
- Verify the selected media is a supported audio format.
